The Mineral Processing Engineering education at Istanbul Technical University started as a division of the “Mining Engineering Department” which was formed as part of the Mining Faculty in 1953. The division was re-organized as a department of the same faculty in order to meet the requirements of engineering education in 2007. Mineral Processing Engineering Department with laboratory areas of 1500 m2 shelters most modern devices and equipment to follow today’s technological developments. Our wet and dry pilot plant facilities are equipped to investigate any project of both ore and coal beneficiation.

Research activities in Mineral processing Engineering department are divided into four groups as “Surface Chemistry of Flotation”, Mineral Processing and Beneficiation Technologies, Waste Management and Recovery, and Coal Processing Technology. The Department has a strong educational and research stuff with, 9 Professor, 4 Associate Professor, 2 Assistant Professor, 5 Research Assistant and 2 Engineers (PhD).
